  • This poem was initially published without a final line. The Free-Lance ran a competition inviting submissions of a last line and offering prize money of two pounds, two shillings for 'the most appropriate' entry. On 16 July 1896, the editors of the Free-Lance announced the winner, noting that 2,754 entries had been received.
