'A visiting Pacific troupe was the catalyst for the Aborigibnal "Welcome to Country." The custom moved into mainstream culture in 1976 when the Middar Aboriginal Theatre, whose founders included Dr Richard Walley and Ernie Dingo was performing at a tourism event in Perth.'
