'A fond remembrance, The School of Arts is a warm evocation of small-town country life and the unintentional chaos caused by a motley band of travelling players. As the 1967 referendum to include Australia's Indigenous population in the national census is about to take place, a touring theatre troupe is preparing to perform Hamlet at the local School of Arts. But when troupe leader Byron Savage decides to spice up the performance with a loaded gun and is wounded in the process, he sparks a chain of events that turns the evening into a maelstrom of burlesque and vaudeville.
