"The death of John Braden, the elder of two prospectors in the north of the Central Australian desert, leaves Philip Crescan the sole possessor of knowledge of the location of a great gold mine long sought after by many. After burying his partner, Crescan strives to reach Darwin, and is found half dead en route by Ben Custom. On reaching Darwin he registers Maxine Braden, the daughter of his dead partner, as the owner of one-half of the mine. He meets "Gentleman Tony" who cooperates with "Billy the Greek", both scoundrels, formerly known at Kalgoorlie. They conspire to blackmail him, but, assisted by Wo Pen, and well disguised, he gets away by a steamer bound for Brisbane, where he hopes to find Braden's daughter. Eventually he succeeds, finding her at Toowong. He supplies all particulars regarding his partnership with her late father in the search for the mine. At first she wishes to leave future action to him, but after his departure for Port darwin she decides to follow him and takes passage on the next steamship." (from introduction to the fourth installment, March 1923) Chases, kidnapping and an attack by Myalls are some of their subsequent adventures.
