'The structural idea behind "Three Short Plays About the Same Two People" is an experiment in non-linear narrative. The play has been conceived so that the three short plays that it comprises can be arranged into six different narratives of the same set of events, depending on the chosen order of performance. This form has been chosen as an investigation into the means by which traditional narrative patterns in drama can be disrupted and rearranged and what that does to expectations of climactic structuring and denouement.
