Notes

  • The first reference to this play found to date comes from a 1982 edition of the West Australian (1 April). In an article title 'Morris West Goes for Broke, from the the 'Thursday Magazine' section, Hugh Schmitt filed an interview with West from New York. In the interview the author discusses his recently written play, The World is made of Glass and its forthcoming production, to be directed by Jose Quintero and co-produced by Lester Osterman. The play was reported to be opening in the northern autumn. West also stated that he had decided to write a book of the same name and had already written 10,000 words in 5 weeks. No staging of the play has yet been identified, however, prior to 1987, when it made its American 'premiere' in New York at the Church of the Holy Scapular. The novelised version in the meantime was published in 1983.
