'The novel opens at Sydney Grammar School, where Harry Austin invites Bob Walters, Arthur Clay, and Tom Burrowes to his outback home. The boys hunt kangaroos, muster brumbies, visit an Aboriginal camp, and witness a bush wedding. In one incident Bob is kidnapped by Aboriginal People [sic], but saved by his redoubtable chums' (Oxford Companion to Australian Children's Literature 16).
