In 1836 Mary Thomas, aged 49, abandoned her comfortable life and home in the centre of Landon for a tent in the sandhills of Holdfast bay in the new colony of South Australia. With her husband, Robert, who set up the colony's first printing press and newspaper, Mary hoped the fledgling town of Adelaide would overflow with opportunities for her five children, particularly her two sons. - back cover
