Notes

  • Dedication: For Jaems, and my Mother,Judy.
  • Author's note: About five years ago, everybody I knew was reading The Women's Room....I remember visiting a male friend who was on the last page when I arrived. He was decidedly miserable. In trying to articulate what effect the book had on him, I was reminded of Betty Friedman's 'Problem without a name'....However, it seemed to me at the time, that men had a problem without a name. Not only was there a sense of discontent with the traditional masculine role, but a fear that, should it be expressed aloud, it might be construed as anti-feminist....So the idea of developing a play around these themes themselves began to grow. How was the pervasive influence of feminism effecting men? It took a few more years before daring to embark upon such project....
