Author's note: The waratah is a deep red, showy flower completely different from any other. It blooms in the mountain and bush areas of eastern Australia. Now protected by law from destruction, it is the emblem flower of New South Wales. a legend explaining its distinctive form comes from the Aboriginal people who lived in traditional times in the area now called the Blue Mountains.
