AbstractHistoryArchive Description

'Growing up just as the first pastoralists were cutting a swathe through his native lands, Jandamarra is one of Australia's great tragic heroes. Station child, angry young man, police tracker of his own people and finally inspirational leader of the most successful indigenous resistance against white settlement, his life was lived on the jagged edge of change and uncertainty. This story belongs the the Bunuba people of the Kimberley-but it speaks to everyone. (Source: Publisher)

Production Details

  • World premiere produced by Black Swan Theatre Company during the 2008 Perth International Arts Festival, Perth Convention Exhibition Centre, 9-23 February 2008. Production in Bunuba, English and Kriol with English surtitles. Produced in Broome, 13-16 July 2011; Widjana Gorge July 22 -27 2011; Halls Creek 30 July 2011; Kununurra 4-6 August 2011.

    The play was re-written for an outdoor setting and toured in Northern Western Australia in 2011.
