'Westories' (Cover)
-
Peace is the second book in the 'Weststories' series, following Mother. These were preceded by Carnival of Poets, also published by the Liverpool Migrant Resource Centre and including contributions from the same authors. ' The reason for bringing together the same writers year after year is to give these women of non-English speaking background the opportunity to improve their skills in both creative and English writing without interrupting their process.' (From the Foreword to this volume, p. 7.)
-
Also in the Foreword, Marisa Cano comments on the challenges of editing such a collection: 'I have tried to reach a compromise between my duty to 'clean' the text and my personal respect for each writer's unique voice (7).
-
In the first session of the workshops which produced this volume, a mind-map setting out connotations and associations with the word 'peace' was created as a guide for inspiration. It is reproduced on p. 10.
