  • Dedication: For my husband, Arthur: stop trying/ to remember me/ slender-fit -/ in lumpy old age/ we'll still swim along.

  • Tanka, meaning 'short song', is a traditional form of Japanese poetry written in an unrhymed verse form of thirty-one syllables.
