The Authors Book Club, Catherine Keenan , single work column
The Australian Society of Authors asked its 3 000 members to 'nominate between one and five of their favourite Australian books'. 500 Society members responded; their top choice being Tim Winton's Cloudstreet. The list resulting from the survey identified the top 40 choices. The majority of works were novels published in the last 50 years and included a smattering of children's books. Only two poets (Judith Wright and Kenneth Slessor) and two works of non-fiction (Manning Clark's A History of Australia and David Marr's Patrick White : A Life) were represented.
