"Kernot's move to the Labor party in October 1997 was accompanied by much optimism and expectation. This is her account of what happened. She chronicles the early euphoria, the slow unravelling, the broken promises, the disillusionment, to the ultimate loss of her seat in the November 2001 election."--National Library of Australia catalogue
Notes
-
Dedication: For Gavin and Sian, who believe in my ability to make a difference and have lived through it all; for my extended family, whose support and love has been unwavering; for the 'Tricias' in my life; for my 'staffers' and all my close friends, including those in Labor and the Democrats who understand exactly why I had to write this book.
-
Epigraph: History, comrade, will have to take its chance. - Gough Whitlam
-
Author's note: I have written this book to give history and those who interpret it a chance to hear the other side. My book is not a political tome or payback, but there are lessons to share from my experiences. This is the story of a woman, who also happens to be a politician. This is who I am and what I believe in. These are my words.
