An account of the lives of Japanese settlers in Australia, focusing particularly on Western Australia, from the late 1880s onwards. Jones provides insight into the experiences of the Japanese in a range of occupations such as pearl divers, cooks, prostitutes and labourers and examines the treatment of Japanese people during World War II.
