Joan is secretly in love with Billy Dawson, who lives on the farm adjoining her parents' property. When she spies a city girl, Mollie Marsden, sitting on Billy's verandah, Joan is devastated. When Mollie is injured in an accident, Joan will have to make critical decisions.

    Most of the items in this book were written when the author was a fourteen year old schoolboy and can be classified as being for children, although some were obviously intended for a general audience (e.g., the poems and stories on horse racing). In addition to poetry and fiction, there are two one-act plays: 'In the Indian's Camp' and 'A Perilous Picnic: (A Short Play)'.
