Notes

  • This work exists as an incomplete MS, held at the Mitchell Library, Sydney. [MSS. 3796/3]. Ackland (1993) indicates that the MS is headed 'No. 1 in the series of "Political Biographies"', which suggests that Kendall might have intended it as one his satirical 'Political Biographies' sketches which were published in the Freeman's Journal in 1878. Kendall's subject here appears to have been the New South Wales M.L.A. Michael Fitzpatrick (1816-1881), who held the position of New South Wales Colonial Secretary in the years 1877-1878. In the sketch Kendall obliquely indicates that 'Fitz' was the then Colonial Secretary.
