Notes

  • The Grand National Poetry Stakes ran from 1979 to 2002 and initially attracted up to 3000 entries per year. Winning and commended entries were published in the anthology Galloping On. The editors/organisers/judges, Helen Weller and John Harper-Nelson believe the final anthology is "the finest collection of rhyming verse written by Australian poets in the final quarter of the 20th Century" and includes contributions from Hal Colebatch, Andrew Lansdown, Stephen Edgar, Gerry Glaskin, Jeri Kroll, Mark O'Connor, Amy Witting, Edith Speers, Errol Broome and Joanna Murray Smith. The inaugural Galloping On anthology was used as a high school text.
