Kin was devised through collaboration between members of Sidetrack Theatre, and in particular Stefo Nantsou (q.v.), Silvio Ofria and Adam Hatzimanolis.

A special education kit was developed by the Office of Multicultural Affairs with assistance from the News South Wales Department of Education in 1988 (prior to the play's publication the following year). It comprises the playscript, reviews of performances, educational activities, information on multiculturalism and immigration in Australia, a video recording of the production, sound cassettes of songs from the play and an interview with the dramaturg, Tom Burvill.

The production toured New South Wales and Queensland highschools in 1987. It was also given a return season by Sidetrack Theatre in January 1988 (directed by Gail Kelly).
