AbstractHistoryArchive Description

A mixture of comedy, music and pathos, Kin explores cultural differences, and more particularly identity among the displaced. It tells the story of young people of different ethnic backgrounds growing up in present-day Australia and was developed by Sidetrack Theatre to dramatise multi-cultural issues within the Australian community.

Notes

  • Kin was devised through collaboration between members of Sidetrack Theatre, and in particular Stefo Nantsou (q.v.), Silvio Ofria and Adam Hatzimanolis.

  • A special education kit was developed by the Office of Multicultural Affairs with assistance from the News South Wales Department of Education in 1988 (prior to the play's publication the following year). It comprises the playscript, reviews of performances, educational activities, information on multiculturalism and immigration in Australia, a video recording of the production, sound cassettes of songs from the play and an interview with the dramaturg, Tom Burvill.
