Darrell wrote this four act melodrama based on the reputed exploits of Louis de Rougemont (aka Henri Louis Grin). De Rougemont claimed to have lived for thirty years among Australian Aborigines, and Darrell suggested to George Musgrove (q.v.) that he undertake a tour of the English provinces. Musgrove was in England at the time having launched a successful season of The Belle of New York. Darrell even suggested that de Rougement play himself in the drama. Plans for a production fell through, however, when de Rougemont/Grin was exposed as a fraud and the public stayed away from the lectures (ctd. Eric Irvin, Gentleman George, q.v., p196).
