AbstractHistoryArchive Description

This work consists of a series of poems created by Dobson and Campbell in the style of the two Russian poets Anna Akhmatova and Osip Mandelstam. A. D. Hope commented in the foreword that rather than being a book of translations, the poems by Dobson and Campbell are 'to be seen primarily as the equivalents in another country in another language of those by Anna Akhmatova and Osip Mandelsam'.

Notes

  • Each poem in the selection appears in two versions, and some in three - the translation from the Russian by Natalie Staples and a poetic re-working of that translation by David Campbell or Rosemary Dobson, or both.
  • Content indexing in process.
