AbstractHistoryArchive Description

The poems compiled within this collection date from 1849 to the early 1890s. According to J. J. Moloney most of the works were never published during Eastmure's lifetime. Those that were published appeared in newspapers such as The Freeman's Journal and the (unidentified) Express.

Notes

  • This collection of poems was compiled by J. J. Moloney and published a quarter of a century after Alice Ashton Eastmure's death. In his preface Moloney writes that Eastmure had been a close friend to his mother when she worked as a governess in their rural town. His mother often recited her poetry to him during his youth and in the course of later years he tracked down her poems with the view to publishing them. Most of the poems were located thgrough her friends. After compiling the collection Moloney published it himself, using Newcastle printing firm Davies and Cannington to typeset and print the book.
