Teresa felt that she had been lucky, in the circumstances, to get the job of governess at Quimera - although she had not realised that Quimera was not, as she had imagined, in Spain, but was a small, almost primitive island off the coast of South America, and virtually ruled by the imposing Marques Leonardo Anchorada de Ancoreda y Alonza. leon was a benevolent enough employer, but Teresa did wish that she could manage to make a better impression on him - somehow she always seemed accident-prone where he was concerned!
