An Australian Girl: Introduction, Amanda Nettelbeck , single work criticism biography
Argues that while it contains many of the ingredients of domestic romance fiction, An Australian Girl deviates from that genre both in the character of the heroine and in the novel's ending. Nettelbeck notes Catherine Martin's implicit acceptance of the conservative forces of history, but that she also challenges their limits, and has faith in a future of independence and equality..
