Some Thoughts on Australian Literature, Katharine Susannah Prichard , single work criticism
'In this article Prichard criticises those "academic book worms" who find in Patrick White a new "Australian image". She, instead, praises the "democratic tradition in Australian literature" as represented by Henry Lawson. She urges: "We Australian writers must not let ourselves be betrayed into the vogue for obscurity and obscenity which the avant garde of literary critics, at present, regards as necessary ingredients of a work of the creative imagination"'.
