After the story's publication in Australian Short Stories, readers contacted the editors to point out that it was almost identical to the story 'Sredni Vashtar' published pre World-War I by British writer 'Saki' (H. H. Munro). The editorial of the subsequent issue of Australian Short Stories discusses the issue.
