This poem appeared in Bell's Life in Sydney in November 1861 titled 'Kerrassu: An Aboriginal Song'. Kendall subsequently changed the name of the protagonist to 'Kooroora', which brought about a change of title, and the substitution of the name 'Kooroora' in the text of the poem (where it is repeated at the end of each verse).
