In particular, most of the stories depict migrants who live isolated lives in farms in Western Australia during the post-war period, when mass migration occurred from countries in Southern Europe. The author, being an immigrant herself, conveys this experience with authenticity, giving voice to the voiceless, who would not have been able to write their own stories. As with the author's previous collections Other Earth, Bitterness and The Same Light, these stories, too, are characterised by gritty realism but also great lyricism. Brighton : Owl Publishing , 2011 pg. 16-21
