Notes

  • A copy of this poem was forwarded to the Sydney Mail in 1881 by the reader J. G. H., from Inglewood, Victoria. Their accompanying note stated that it had been written by then New South Wales Premier, Sir Henry Parkes, just prior to migrating to Australia [in the late 1830s], and that it had been published in the Village Magazine at the time.
