Author's Preface: The Poems in the collection were written in New Zealand and Fiji as well as Australia. Central groupings incorporate works about Pacific and Australian places and moods. The opening section contains observations on the sport of love; the final sections holds responses to contemporary poets' views of experiences. The first two poems in the final section are taken from the sequence 'Days of Philangering', which was awarded the twelfth annual H. M. Butterly - F. Earle Hooper Memorial Award in 1981 for best contribution to Southerly. The title of the section conveys my appreciation of Les A. Murray's hospitality toward me for several years....
