Notes

  • Author's note from the 1988 edition : This is a fiction, but one based on historical facts. The medical experimental camp at Harbin did exist. It was the largest the world has ever kown.

From 1933, the Janpanese Army Biological Unit, Section 731, was manned by more than two thousand of Japan's most talented doctors who volunteered in order to conduct live experiments on prisoners of war.

Lieutenant Generat Shiro Ishi was in charge of the development of biological weapons.

The records of Section 731 were completely erased to create a blank in history.

Many members of the original Section 731 experimental medical teams now hold high office in Japan.
