AbstractHistoryArchive Description

Over a hundred years of history provide the setting for this five-generation saga, beginning with Isabella Minogue's journey by bullock dray in 1857 to the first white settlement on the Burnett River in Queensland. As the story unfolds, the strands of colonialism, Victorian conventions, town and country life and Aboriginality enmesh in an increasingly complex pattern of Australian culture. To its challenges, Isabella, her daughter-in-law Sally and a descendent in each of three successive generations make their unique personal response. The Burnett River provides background and enduring thread to the story. (Back cover).
