AbstractHistoryArchive Description
In this work, Dobson and Campbell published 'imitations', rather than 'translations' of the poems of seven Russian poets - Osip Mandelstam, Anna Akhmatova, Marina Tsvetaeva, Olga Berggolts, Bella Akhmadulina, Natalia Gorbanevskaia, and Yunna Morits. A literal English translation of each Russian poem was examined and used as a foundation for new works created by Dobson and Campbell in the style of the Russian poets.
Notes
-
Author note: 'We have given the title in English to those poems which had a title in the original Russian. We have given the opening words of each poem in transliterated Russian.'
-
Author note: 'We do not present these poems as translations but rather as imitations of the originals, re-created in English.'
