V. N. Hopkins served at Gallipoli in World War I. He contributed to The Anzac Book (1916). Hopkins enlisted as a private in the 5th Field Ambulance, 17 March, 1915. He was attached to the 17th Australian Battalion and rose to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He died of wounds at Menin Road, Ypres, Belgium, 21 September 1917.
