Cherished friend and mentor to many. Family and friends of Roy are invited to attend his funeral service to be held 2 p.m. on Wednesday, 21st October 2009 at the Magnolia Chapel, Macquarie Park Crematorium, cnr Delhi and Plassey Roads, North Ryde. In lieu of flowers, donations to the NSW Cancer Council would be appreciated. Envelopes available at the chapel.

BiographyHistory

Roy Whitecross was a World War II prisoner-of-war in Changi, on the Burma-Thai railway and in Japan. His autobiography, Slaves of the Son of Heaven: A Personal Account of an Australian POW, 1942-1945, sold nearly 200,000 and was frequently reprinted.

Whitecross worked in the New South Wales public service and as assistant registrar at The University of Sydney.
