Jaquanna Elliot did not know of her Indigenous heritage until she was an adult. Her natural mother told her she belonged to the Dunghutti 'river people' in Kempsey, New South Wales. In 2004 Elliot's work featured in Black Ink's first publication, Crow Feathers (q.v.). She has also worked as a tutor in schools, as a part of Black Ink's 'Pass-It-On' Storybook Writing Program, and similar projects run by Black Ink (q.v.).
