BiographyHistory

Evdokia Petrov defected from Russia under dramatic circumstances in Darwin nine days after her husband, Vladimir Petrov (q.v.), who defected on 4 April 1954. The Petrovs were granted asylum, Australian status and new identites in 1956. Assuming the names of Sven and Maria Allyson, the Petrovs settled in suburban Melbourne. The Petrov Affair caused a Royal Commission and far reaching effects in Australian political and cultural life.
