BiographyHistory

Frank Marryat was born in Charmouth, Devonshire and educated on the training ship Conway. He failed to pass the examination for the Royal Navy and joined the Newcastle Marine, serving some years as third mate. His mother was the daughter of the English novelist Captain Marryat.
