BiographyHistory

From 1937 Fred Paterson served as the first editor of The North Queensland Guardian. An intellectual man, he received a Rhodes scholarship and studied theology at Oxford University. Before moving to Townsville in 1933, he was the first president of the Minority Labour Movement. Elected as an alderman in Townsville in April 1939, he became Australia's first Communist M.L.A. in 1944.
