Luke Beesley was born in Brisbane and grew up in South East Queensland. After completing study in psychology at Griffith University he travelled widely living in London, Montreal, Tokyo.

In 2004 a sequence of his poetry, written on a residency with Brisbane Water, was printed on the envelope of the Brisbane City Council's quarterly rates notices. In 2006 he completed an M.Phil in Creative Writing at the University of Queensland under the supervision of Bronwyn Lea, and in 2006/7 spent four months in Delhi, India, on an Asialink Residency.

In 2008 he moved to Melbourne.

'Aqua Spinach rounds out a trilogy of books interested in the affinities between poetry and other media – visual arts, music, and particularly in this collection, cinema. The poems in Aqua Spinach blend observation, memory and anecdote, producing surrealistic imagery as they pivot and twist from image to image. They are infused with the atmosphere of surrealist cinema, mimicking the films’ focus on dreams, fragments and humour, while also speaking to the author's quotidian Melbourne milieu.'
