BiographyHistory

David J. Landau was born into a respected Polish-Jewish family. Working in the family business until the outbreak of World War II, he subsequently became a resistance fighter and a member of the Polish Underground. After the war, Landau stayed briefly in Czechoslovakia, Germany and France before he and his wife Luba migrated to Australia in 1947.

Encouraged by 'others who were active during the war', Landau made the decision to write his story of survival as a tribute to 'the memory of his colleagues' and those who lost their lives.

Landau died in 1996; just days earlier he had completed work on the manuscript of Caged. The work was published posthumously by the Landau family in 1999.
