BiographyHistory

The Walter Scott Publishing Company Limited commenced in 1882 when the Tyne Publishing Company was one of many taken over by builder and contractor Walter Scott. It began publishing reprints of popular classics, and ultimately developed at least fifty book series. Prominent among these were the Canterbury Poets series, covering major English and American writers, Camelot Classics, containing editions of major English prose works and translations of foreign works, and Great Writers, comprising biographies and bibliographies of major authors. The company lost direction after Scott's death in 1910 and was dissolved in 1931.
