Kam Louie was educated at Peking University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and he has a PhD from Sydney University. He taught at Nanjing University, the University of Auckland and Murdoch University before moving to Queensland, where he was appointed Professor of Chinese Studies in the School of Languages and Comparative Cultural Studies at the University of Queensland. He is also Director of the Asian Studies Centre and editor of its Asian Studies Review.
