BiographyHistory

Catiline was a Roman politician. He rose to be governor of Africa in 67 BC. Denied candidacy for the consulship by false accusations of misconduct in office, he plotted to murder the consuls but was acquitted. In 63 BC he ran again for consul, but was defeated by the incumbent, Cicero. He died in battle at Pistoia. In his biography of Catiline, Sallust accuses him and others of conspiring against Cicero.
