Austlit

Phillip Parker King was the son of Philip Gidley King, lieutenant-governor of Norfolk Island. He was a nautical surveyor and explored the north-western coast of Australia. He wrote about his experience in Narrative of a Survey of the Intertropical and Western Coasts of Australia (1826). In 1932 he returned to the colony as a landowner and later became resident commissioner of the Australian Agricultural Company. (Source: Oxford Companion to Australian Literature)
