Born and raised in Pakistan, Abidi studied electrical engineering in London and then travelled through Europe (including two years in Germany) before returning to Pakistan to work as an engineer. In 1994 he migrated to Australia and continued his tertiary studies with an MBA. Following this he began work as an industry fund manager in Melbourne. Abidi has written fiction and non-fiction.
