— Appears in: Axon : Creative Explorations , July vol. 13 no. 1 2023; 'In April 2016 Gwenn Tasker and Angela Gardner went to a circus performance by Circa Ensemble called when one door closes at the Brisbane Powerhouse, during which Gwenn drew and Angela wrote. We sat in the front row and, as one reviewer wrote,2 it was a brutal, intensely physical show highlighting feminist opposition to domestic violence. In the audience it felt influenced by Antonin Artaud’s Theatre of Cruelty as if by violent assault the work intended to shatter a comfortably false reality. As physical theatre, it was beautiful, disturbing and mesmerising, exhibiting moments of poise and balance, of pattern and repetition.' (Introduction)

— Appears in: Axon : Creative Explorations , December vol. 12 no. 2 2022; 'This paper references the writing of the Australia Council funded verse novel The Sorry Tale of the Mignonette and the additional print folio created as a practical example of using formal and informal archives and the extent that places, people, and material form enabling networks for the production of new work. Because I trained as a visual artist rather than as a writer, I find it very difficult to confine myself to working solely in one medium. Archival material is not merely stored as a static and revered object but is capable of becoming mobilised and motivated by use, and to affect the practice of the artist/writer through ideas, travel and social contacts. The archive grows through the networks it assumes with the past and new material created from it, showing the circularity of creative production around archival material and its sites.'

Angela Gardner is currently living on Ireland's Beara Peninsula; I write from Naarm/Melbourne. Around reviewing the submissions for this issue, Angela adventured variously (jaunting—to Clonakilty, to Wicklow Mountains—Printmaking. kayaking); I did a lot of sitting, hunched on the sofa by a window. reading while the sun rose.
