BiographyHistory

Todd Hardy attended Cardiff High School, then studied at the University of Newcastle where as an undergraduate he first became interested in writing poetry. He published his first poem at the age of 21 in the Newcastle Herald and became involved in the city's and university's literary scene while also dabbling in freelance music journalism. During his time as a student, he won first prize for poetry in the Fellowship of Australian Writers Far North Coast Regional division competition in 1996.

After graduating he moved to Sydney, obtaining a Ph.D. from the School of Physiology and Pharmacology at the University of NSW. He also began to publish his poetry in a variety of literary magazines and journals. In 1997 he won the University of NSW Union Literature prize for poetry.

Dissatisfied with the prospect of a research career in Science he took the opportunity to study Medicine, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Sydney in 2005. As a medical student he published frequently in the annual University literary journal Hermes and also won a University of Sydney Union poetry prize. In 2003 he was a judge of the University of NSW Union Literature prize.

He works as a doctor in Sydney and lives in Petersham where he continues to write.
