BiographyHistory

George Negus is a well-known Australian journalist and television presenter. He studied arts and journalism at the University of Queensland and was a high school teacher before writing for the Australian and the Australian Financial Review. He worked as a reporter for This Day Tonight, a pioneering current affairs programme broadcast on the ABC in the1970s, and later for the Australian 60 Minutes from 1979 to 1986. Negus hosted the ABC's Foreign Correspondent from 1992 to 1999, and the afternoon interview programme, George Negus Tonight in 2004. He began hosting the current affairs programme Dateline for the SBS network in 2005.

Negus has also written books of political and social commentary including The World from Islam (2003) and The World from Italy (2002) and The World from Down Under (2010). A compilation of his journalistic writings was published as By George! : Twenty Years behind the Typewriter (1994).
